Agents that tune their own harness, and video as code

The standout theme this week is the layer around agents: one project lets the harness refine itself, another turns video editing into reusable code. Elsewhere there's desktop software rewritten in pure Rust and a tiny duck robot walking on neural-network policies.

  1. 01Why it made the cut: A Google Research framework that recursively refines the prompts, tools and orchestration around a fixed LLM agent. It iterates on unseen tasks via a Propose–Probe–Compose loop, with no ground-truth feedback needed.

  2. 02Why it made the cut: Lets AI agents clone a viral video into an editable workflow and spin off variants, in the space of CapCut and Descript. Timing is anchored to words via the SVML markup language instead of raw seconds.

  3. 03Why it made the cut: Runs the 125B-parameter Qwen3.8-Flash-Next on a single consumer NVIDIA or AMD GPU under Windows or Linux. It serves OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic Messages and OpenAI Responses endpoints on localhost.

  4. 04Why it made the cut: A Claude skill that explains technical ideas with interactive isometric SVG drawings of real machines, built from many small shaded parts. WebGL shader layers add fire, water and light effects.

  5. 05Why it made the cut: A parametric 3D CAD app in pure Rust that runs on desktop and in the browser, with MCP control for agents, aimed at SolidWorks, Fusion and Onshape. It has constraint-solved sketches, a reorderable feature timeline and jointed assemblies.

  6. 06Why it made the cut: A local gateway and menu bar app that lets Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI use any provider's models. It translates between OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini formats, streaming and tool calls included, and fails over to another account when quota runs out.

  7. 07Why it made the cut: A Rust library and CLI from Firecrawl that turns Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, RTF, EPUB, CSV and PDF into GitHub-Flavored Markdown. It sniffs the format from content, so mislabeled files still work, and keeps merged table cells and speaker notes.

  8. 08Why it made the cut: A browser sketchpad where you drag real Material 3 Expressive components onto screens snapped to a 4dp grid and link them with transitions. It then writes a design brief in four languages, for Android or web, to hand to AI coding tools.

  9. 09Why it made the cut: Rust software from Pollen Robotics that runs a tiny biped duck robot. A 50 Hz control loop drives fifteen servos from ONNX policies exported by the microduck_rl training project.

  10. 10Why it made the cut: A desktop converter where you drag files onto a donut menu at the cursor that shows only the formats that fit. It converts 240+ formats offline with no uploads, as a local stand-in for CloudConvert.
