What is it?
Copilot for Obsidian is a community plugin that runs AI agents inside the Obsidian note-taking app. Agent mode can read notes, call tools, create files in the vault and carry out multi-step tasks across several turns, with permissions the user controls. It works with opencode, which the plugin can download and manage, as well as with existing Claude Code and Codex installations through their own CLI logins.
Beyond agents, the plugin offers Projects with their own instructions and chat history, Skills shared across agents, saved Commands, Quick Ask for questions about a selected passage, and a Quick Chat for short conversations. Models can come from a Copilot-hosted service, from your own provider key stored in the device keychain, or from a local model. The plugin frontend is open source, while the backend services for hosted features are proprietary.
Agent mode runs local processes and is available on desktop only; Quick Chat, custom Commands and Quick Ask also work on mobile. Single-agent use does not require a paid license when you bring your own agent account, key or local model.
