What is it?
EdenText is a word processor that runs entirely in the browser. Documents are processed locally and never leave the user's computer, and the app can be installed and used offline. It opens and saves both .odt and .docx files and exports PDF, with support for templates, password-protected files and page layout features such as headers and footers, footnotes, columns and watermarks.
The editor covers thesis and book needs: table of contents, captions, cross-references, citations and bibliography, an alphabetical index and LaTeX formulas. Review tools include track changes, threaded comments, spell check in several European languages, and grammar check for English. An optional AI assistant can use a user's own provider or a local model, and it can be turned off.
The project is in beta. It is built with Svelte 5, TypeScript, Vite and TipTap 3 on ProseMirror, and can be self-hosted as a static site or run as an Electron desktop app.
