What is it?
Ataru turns past AI coding sessions from local agent transcript files into a searchable memory layer. It normalizes sessions from sources such as Claude CLI, Claude App/Web and Codex into Project, Session, Run, Turn and Message records, then indexes them for keyword search with Tantivy and Jieba, which also handles Chinese text, code, package names and error strings.
Queries can be grouped at turn, run, session or project level, and each hit keeps stable IDs, role, timestamp and line number so you can jump back to the original context. Keyword search works fully offline. Semantic recall via an OpenAI-compatible embeddings provider is opt-in, and when it is unavailable the response falls back to keyword results with an explicit warning.
The search logic lives in a shared Rust SDK and API, used by a Tauri/React desktop app, a JSON CLI for scripts, and an Agent Skill workflow of ensure index, search, then inspect.
Key features
- 01Unified indexing of local Claude and Codex session transcripts.
- 02Chinese-aware full-text keyword search built on Tantivy and Jieba.
- 03Results grouped by turn, run, session or project.
- 04Stable project, session, message IDs with line numbers for jumping back to source.
- 05Optional semantic recall that falls back to keyword search when unavailable.
- 06JSON CLI and Agent Skill share the same search contract as the desktop app.
Use cases
- Finding a past debugging fix or command you worked out with an AI coding agent.
- Recalling why an architectural decision was made weeks ago across several projects.
- Letting an agent query its own local history through the JSON CLI or a Skill.
