What is it?
Generative AI Use Cases (GenU) is an AWS sample application that packages common generative AI business use cases into a single web front end. It is deployed to an AWS account with the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) and uses Amazon Bedrock for model access, so teams can try text generation, summarization, translation, image and video generation, meeting minutes and other tasks without building the interface themselves.
For document-based question answering, GenU offers a RAG Chat use case backed by either Amazon Kendra or Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Base, with options such as reranking, metadata filters and external data via MCP servers. It can also host custom agents, import AgentCore Runtime and Bedrock Flows, and provides a Use Case Builder that generates new use case screens from prompt templates without code changes.
GenU is aimed at organizations that want to roll out generative AI internally with authentication, access controls and security settings, and it is written in TypeScript with a React front end.
Key features
- 01Chat, text generation, summarization, translation and meeting minutes use cases ready to use
- 02RAG Chat backed by Amazon Kendra or Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Base
- 03Image and video generation through Amazon Bedrock models
- 04Use Case Builder creates custom use case screens from prompt templates
- 05Agent import for Bedrock Agents, AgentCore Runtime and Bedrock Flows, plus MCP server integration
Use cases
- Rolling out a company-wide generative AI chat tool with access controls on AWS
- Building an internal RAG assistant over company documents stored in S3
- Hosting custom prompt-based bots for teams without writing new front-end code
- Evaluating Amazon Bedrock models through a ready-made chat and generation interface
Quick start
- 1
Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/aws-samples/generative-ai-use-cases - 2
Enter the repository and switch to the latest release branch
cd generative-ai-use-cases git switch -c genu $(git describe --tags --abbrev=0) - 3
Install dependencies at the repository root
npm ci - 4
Enable the required Bedrock models in your model region, then deploy with the normal deployment command
npm run cdk:deploy
Things to know
- Requires an AWS account and deploys AWS resources that incur costs.
- Model access must be enabled manually in Amazon Bedrock before use.
- Amazon Kendra is in maintenance mode and no longer accepts new customers, so RAG setup should prefer Knowledge Base.
