What is it?

Rackpad is a self-hosted inventory and operations workspace for homelabs, small server racks, network rooms and lab environments. It records physical gear such as racks, devices, switch ports and cables, and adds logical records for networks, subnets, DHCP scopes, VLANs and multi-IP device entries. Storage drives, Wi-Fi controllers and SSIDs, and virtualization hosts with their VMs and containers can also be documented in the same app.

The app includes per-device health checks over ICMP, TCP, HTTP/HTTPS and SNMP, with optional alerting by email, Discord or Telegram. Subnet discovery scans stage findings for review before they are imported. A visualizer draws rack, room and cable relationships as an interactive network map, and reports export to printable PDF, spreadsheet or CSV formats.

Rackpad is built with React and Vite on the frontend, a Fastify API, and SQLite storage through better-sqlite3. It runs as a single Docker container with session authentication and admin, editor and viewer roles, and it supports optional OIDC login.

Key features

  • 01Track racks, devices, switch ports and cables with a rack elevation view.
  • 02Manage VLANs, subnets, DHCP scopes and reservations through a Networks/IPAM workspace.
  • 03Run ICMP, TCP, HTTP/HTTPS and SNMP health checks with email, Discord or Telegram alerts.
  • 04Scan subnets and review discovered devices before importing them.
  • 05Draw rack and cable relationships as an interactive topology map.
  • 06Export inventory reports as PDF, Excel-compatible or CSV files.

Use cases

  • Documenting a homelab's rack layout, cabling and device inventory.
  • Planning VLAN and subnet allocations and tracking DHCP reservations.
  • Monitoring the uptime of lab hosts and network services from one dashboard.
  • Keeping an audited, shareable record of infrastructure for a small network room.

Quick start

  1. 1

Read the installation guide (INSTALL.md) and deploy the Docker container as described there

Things to know

  • Docker is the supported deployment; native Proxmox LXC support is still experimental.
  • MCP inventory proposals are an opt-in beta feature.
  • Planned automation features are proposals and have no fixed delivery dates.
