What is it?

Second Yourself is a framework for building a personal AI agent that remembers the user's material and can act on it. A frontier model handles reasoning, a multi-agent harness coordinates helper agents under written rules, and a Markdown wiki kept on the user's machine stores long-term knowledge. Today it runs in Claude Code or the Claudian plugin inside Obsidian, with GPT models as helper agents through the Codex CLI.

The main working mode is a research assistant. You drop PDFs, slides, web pages and other files into the vault, and the agent compiles them into linked notes, maintains cross-references and a catalogue, and answers questions with citations to the notes it used. Each note carries a confidence level, and the wiki can be checked for broken links, orphans and conflicting claims.

The project is pre-1.0 and its design changes often. Setup requires Obsidian, an authenticated coding agent, and MarkItDown for document conversion. A bundled demo wiki can be loaded with `setup.sh --with-example` to see the output before building your own knowledge base.

Key features

  • 01Compiles PDFs, slides, web pages and other files into linked Markdown notes inside an Obsidian vault.
  • 02Answers questions from the wiki with citations to the notes it drew on.
  • 03Assigns each note a confidence level and flags conflicting claims and knowledge gaps.
  • 04Runs helper agents, including GPT models through the Codex CLI, under written file-write permissions.
  • 05Includes lint and deep-lint passes to check links, orphans and stale claims.
  • 06Lets users customise the agent's name, tone and standing preferences in a CUSTOMISATION.md file.

Use cases

  • Building a research library from papers and articles, then asking questions against it with cited answers.
  • Maintaining a personal knowledge base in Obsidian that an AI agent can read and extend over time.
  • Running a shared wiki that a team of coding or research agents draws from.
  • Adapting the note types and workflow to a field other than AI research.

Quick start

  1. 1

Install the MarkItDown converter with pip

    pip install 'markitdown[all]'
  2. 2

    Clone the repository

    git clone https://github.com/HurricaHjz/second-yourself.git
  3. 3

    Enter the cloned folder

    cd second-yourself
  4. 4

Run setup once before first use (or use the bundled demo with setup.sh --with-example)

    bash setup.sh

Things to know

  • Pre-release, and the design changes often until v1.0.
  • Needs Claude Code or the Claudian plugin inside Obsidian, plus an API or plan quota.
  • GPT helper agents require an installed and authenticated Codex CLI.
  • The professor-loop authoring workflow is not included in this version.
