Cling is a macOS file search app built for finding a specific file by a rough or partly misspelled name and then doing something with it immediately. It floats over other apps like Spotlight or stays pinned to the desktop, and it indexes local disks, external volumes and cloud storage folders, keeping the indexes up to date through FSEvents.

Results come from fuzzy matching with extension filters, folder restrictions, and search operators. Selected files can be opened, copied, dragged, batch-renamed, shared through an encrypted expiring link, or passed to scripts. A CLI tool and an MCP server let terminals and AI agents run searches and adjust index settings.

Cling is free with the Home, Library, Cloud Storage and Applications scopes. A Pro licence adds System and Root scopes, external volume indexing, a file server for browser downloads, scripts, and higher result limits. The project's repository notes that commits have been paused and development continues privately.
