Podroid runs a full Alpine Linux virtual machine with its own kernel on an Android phone, without root access. Because it is a real VM rather than a chroot or proot workaround, Podman, Docker and LXC behave as they would on a server.

The VM runs either on QEMU or on hardware-accelerated AVF on supported pKVM devices. The app includes an in-app terminal with 256-color support, color themes and fonts, plus an X11 viewer for running Linux GUI applications with touch, keyboard, mouse and audio.

Networking features include SSH access, port forwarding managed from the VM shell, USB passthrough, a bridge between the guest and Android, and Downloads-folder sharing with the guest. The project targets arm64 devices running Android 8 or later.
