What is it?

Hatoba is a desktop SSH client that keeps hosts, keys, and terminal sessions in one app and syncs them between devices. Each terminal has an AI assistant that can read the screen, run commands, and edit files on the host, with approval controls over what it may do. It uses your own OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic API key and supports skills and MCP servers.

Sync is optional and runs on a Cloudflare Worker and D1 database deployed to your own account, so there is no Hatoba server holding your data. Everything is encrypted on the device with Argon2id-derived keys and AES-256-GCM before it is stored or synced, so the Worker and database only ever hold ciphertext.

Beyond the terminal, Hatoba includes an SFTP file panel, port forwarding, resource usage monitoring over SSH, and support for passwords, Ed25519, ECDSA, and RSA keys. It is built with Tauri 2 and is Windows-first, with Linux packages and an experimental macOS build.

Key features

  • 01AI assistant that reads the terminal screen, runs commands, and edits files, with approval or Auto mode
  • 02Host management with groups, tags, ~/.ssh/config import, and ProxyJump
  • 03SFTP panel with drag-and-drop transfer and editing remote files in a local editor
  • 04Local, remote, and SOCKS port forwarding
  • 05End-to-end encrypted incremental sync through your own Cloudflare Worker and D1
  • 06Hatoba command lets coding agents and scripts use saved hosts without seeing passwords

Use cases

  • Managing many servers and syncing hosts and keys across a laptop and desktop
  • Letting an AI assistant diagnose and fix problems on a remote machine with you approving actions
  • Editing files on remote servers with your local editor and SFTP
  • Keeping sensitive SSH data private when you do not want a third-party sync service

Quick start

  1. 1

Add the Extras bucket to Scoop

    scoop bucket add extras
  2. 2

Install Hatoba with Scoop on Windows

    scoop install extras/hatoba
  3. 3

On Arch Linux, install hatoba-bin from the AUR with an AUR helper

    yay -S hatoba-bin
  4. 4

Or download the app for your system from the download page

Things to know

  • The maintainer tests mainly on Windows, so Linux and macOS builds get little real-world testing.
  • The macOS build is experimental.
  • AI features need your own OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic API key.
  • Optional sync requires deploying a Worker and D1 database to your own Cloudflare account.
