What is it?
TerraVision is a cloud architecture diagram generator that works in both directions. You can describe an architecture to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT and get a diagram, or draw a diagram from existing Terraform code. The diagram is derived from terraform plan, so it reflects what the code deploys, with conditionals, count, for_each and modules resolved. It also works from a simple JSON graph format without any Terraform.
Resources are placed inside their VPC, subnet, zone or resource group using official AWS, Azure and GCP icons. Output includes PNG, SVG and editable draw.io files, and an interactive HTML view that lets you click resources to inspect settings. Terraform can also be generated from a diagram. Drawing a Terraform environment needs only the code and a variables file, so prod can be drawn without access to the cloud account.
TerraVision runs locally as a CLI, an MCP server, or a GitHub Action for keeping diagrams current in CI/CD. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
Key features
- 01Draws AWS, Azure and GCP architectures with official cloud icons and grouping by VPC, subnet, zone or resource group.
- 02Builds diagrams from terraform plan, resolving conditionals, count, for_each and modules.
- 03Accepts plain-English descriptions through AI assistants and a simple JSON graph format.
- 04Exports PNG, SVG, editable draw.io files and an interactive HTML view.
- 05Runs as a CLI, an MCP server or a GitHub Action for CI/CD.
Use cases
- Documenting an existing Terraform codebase with an up-to-date architecture diagram.
- Drawing a production or staging environment without access to its cloud account.
- Sketching a new cloud design in an AI assistant and generating the initial Terraform from it.
- Keeping architecture diagrams in a repository refreshed automatically on each Terraform change.
