What is it?
ThunderAI is an add-on for Thunderbird that adds AI actions to the mail client. From the context menu or toolbar it can draft replies, proofread and rewrite text, translate and summarize emails, suggest tags, classify messages, and extract calendar events or tasks from email content.
It works with cloud providers such as ChatGPT, OpenAI, Google Gemini and Claude, or runs locally through Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible server such as LM Studio. A setup wizard walks through choosing a provider and testing the connection. Users can also write custom prompts with data placeholders and share them through export and import.
With an API integration, ThunderAI can process incoming mail automatically, including auto-tagging, spam filtering, auto-summarizing and auto-translation. Enterprise administrators can pre-configure or lock settings through Thunderbird Enterprise Policies. Calendar and task actions require the companion add-on ThunderAI Sparks.
