What is it?

AI coding agents tend to produce the same interface: indigo gradients, a centered hero, three feature cards and default fonts. design-taste is a collection of agent skills, plain instruction files in each agent's skills directory, that push output away from these defaults. The core skill covers reading the brief, choosing a design direction, banning common LLM patterns and running a pre-flight checklist.

On top of the core skill sit ten genre packs, each defining a distinct visual identity such as Swiss editorial minimalism, brutalist industrial, quiet luxury, dark tech, retro print or wabi-sabi Japanese minimal. Each pack ships with a before-and-after HTML demo built from the same brief. Craft skills cover typography, color, motion, GSAP, accessibility, UX copy, performance and code review, and can be combined with any genre pack.

Installation is done by copying the skill folders or running the included install script, which targets Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, opencode, Cline and Roo.

Key features

  • 01Core skill for reading briefs, declaring a design direction and avoiding LLM default patterns
  • 02Ten genre packs with distinct visual identities, each with a before/after demo
  • 03Craft skills for typography, color, motion, accessibility, UX copy and performance
  • 04Code skills for token-driven CSS, semantic HTML and severity-ranked code review
  • 05Install script that targets Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, opencode, Cline and Roo

Use cases

  • Generating landing pages or marketing sites with an AI coding agent that should not look like a template
  • Enforcing a consistent visual direction across an AI-built frontend project
  • Reviewing agent-generated UI for generic patterns and accessibility gaps
  • Building a design token system with a documented three-tier structure

Quick start

  1. 1

    Clone the repository

    Enter the project folder

    cd design-taste
  3. 3

Install all skills to your agents

    ./scripts/install.sh

Things to know

  • Genre packs are opinionated visual identities, so you should pick one per project.
