What is it?

PR Lens generates visual walkthroughs of code changes. It reads a pull request's diff, uses a model to map the affected components and the calls between them, and renders the result as animated light and dark SVG diagrams. The diagrams are posted as a comment in the pull request, with changed parts colored green for new, amber for changed and red for removed.

Beyond the comment, each diagram can be opened on an interactive canvas where readers zoom, pan and step through guided walkthroughs. Clicking a data-flow arrow shows the request and response payload. Renaming, excluding or grouping elements is controlled through a .github/pr-lens.yml configuration file.

It runs as a hosted GitHub App, a GitHub Action, a GitLab CI/CD component, a Bitbucket pipe, a standalone CLI, or a skill for coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex. The Action and CLI use your own model key, and any provider that supports the chat completions API can be configured.

Key features

  • 02Shows the request and response payload when you click a data-flow arrow
  • 03Provides an interactive canvas with zoom, pan and step-by-step walkthroughs
  • 04Works with GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket
  • 05Offers a CLI and agent skill for drawing diagrams before a pull request exists

Use cases

  • Reviewing a large pull request by seeing which components and calls it touches
  • Onboarding to an unfamiliar codebase through guided diagram walkthroughs
  • Checking an coding agent's changes with a diagram before opening a pull request
  • Documenting how data flows through a system in a shareable canvas link

Quick start

  1. 1

Install the GitHub App on your repository

  2. 2

Open a pull request and the diagram appears as a comment
