What is it?
Octop is a self-hosted AI assistant platform for households and small teams. A single process serves a web dashboard, a CLI, IM channels such as Feishu, DingTalk, QQ, WeChat, Telegram, Discord and WeCom, and cron-based automation. Conversations, workspaces and credentials are stored under ~/.octop/, using SQLite by default or PostgreSQL as an option.
Each user can create several experts, each with its own workspace, model providers, channels and scheduled jobs. Experts can be built from 16 MBTI persona templates or a custom system prompt, and an AgentTeams feature (in beta) lets a coordinator schedule multiple experts on multi-step tasks. Users can also extend the assistant through connectors using OAuth and MCP, a knowledge base for document retrieval, and third-party plugins.
Octop also works as an ACP server for IDEs and terminals, and can delegate coding work to external agents such as Claude Code and OpenCode. It includes a browser automation tool built on headless Chromium, a remote desktop view, and a terminal assistant. Installation is available via a one-line script, pip, Docker, or native desktop builds.

- AgentTeams is in Beta and the mobile client is in closed beta.
- The recommended installer is a remote script piped into a shell, so you must trust its source.
