What is it?

SOMA is a desktop CAD program where a coding agent writes the model as Python code using CadQuery, and the app rebuilds and displays the result on every change. You describe the part, check it in a 3D viewer, measure or mark what needs fixing, and the agent updates the code. It is aimed at makers who need a case, bracket or mount without learning a traditional CAD tool.

SOMA is not an agent itself. It runs any CLI agent that can read files and run commands, such as Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI, inside a terminal in the model folder. You install and log in to the agent yourself. SOMA provides a command line tool (soma build, soma analyze, soma render) and an AGENTS.md with project rules.

The app includes a code editor with Git, a model history with restore, adjustable parameters, standard screws and nuts, STEP import, FEM strength analysis via CalculiX, and exports to STEP, STL, 3MF, DXF and PDF drawings. Packages are available for Windows, Linux and macOS (Apple Silicon); the project is an early 0.x prototype.

Key features

  • 01Models written as CadQuery Python code and rebuilt on every change
  • 02Works with any CLI coding agent that can read files and run commands
  • 03Click, measure and sketch on the 3D view to send feedback to the agent
  • 04Model history with timeline preview and restore
  • 05Analysis for overhangs, wall thickness and FEM strength via CalculiX
  • 06Export to STEP, STL, 3MF, DXF, and PDF technical drawings

Use cases

  • Designing a 3D-printable case or enclosure for an electronics project
  • Making a bracket or mount for a home or workshop setup
  • Creating a parametric part whose dimensions you adjust later
  • Producing STEP or STL files for printing or CNC from a text description
