What is it?

BaoCut is a desktop AI video agent built around an editable timeline rather than a one-shot MP4 render. You describe what you want, and the agent transcribes footage, writes and translates subtitles, dubs audio into another language, cuts talking-head recordings, and generates motion graphics. Each result stays in the timeline, so a single subtitle line or voice-over sentence can be changed without re-rendering the whole video.

Humans and the agent share the same editor and undo stack, so you can take over at any point. Export covers MP4 with burned-in or sidecar subtitles, SRT and WebVTT, transcripts, audio stems, and a portable .baocut bundle. Speech and image models can run locally on Apple Silicon or Windows, or be routed to online providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and ElevenLabs.

Besides the desktop app, the same local Runtime is exposed through a `baocut` CLI, an MCP service with a BaoCut skill for agents such as Claude Code and Codex, and a browser-based web client. Ffmpeg and ffprobe are required for media processing and are not bundled.

Key features

  • 01Transcribes footage with word-level timing using local Whisper, Qwen3-ASR or online APIs.
  • 02Generates subtitles in the original, translated or bilingual form, with per-project styles.
  • 03Dubs video by separating vocals, translating and synthesizing per-sentence voice.
  • 04Removes filler words, pauses and retakes from talking-head recordings on the timeline.
  • 05Creates motion graphics as HTML compositions and places them on the timeline.
  • 06Exports MP4, SRT, WebVTT, transcripts, audio stems and a portable project bundle.

Use cases

  • Adding translated or bilingual subtitles to an existing video.
  • Dubbing a tutorial or explainer into another language.
  • Cleaning up a talking-head recording by removing filler words and retakes.
  • Letting a coding agent like Claude Code or Codex edit video through the CLI or MCP.

Things to know

  • Packaged builds target macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon and Windows x64 only; Intel Mac and Linux installers are not provided.
  • Agent features need a signed-in agent engine such as Codex CLI or Claude Code, and ffmpeg and ffprobe are not bundled.
  • Full source development requires Rust, CMake and platform build tools, and the first build can take considerable time and disk space.
  • The license is listed as NOASSERTION, and some bundled speech models are research or non-commercial licensed.
