What is it?

HolyClaude is a containerized AI development workstation. It packages Anthropic's Claude Code CLI with a browser-based web UI (CloudCLI), a headless Chromium with Xvfb and Playwright, and a large set of language runtimes, CLIs and developer tools, so you can start from a single docker compose command instead of installing each piece by hand.

The container runs the official Claude Code CLI and can authenticate with a Claude Max or Pro subscription through the web UI or with an Anthropic API key. Other bundled AI CLIs include Gemini CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor and TaskMaster AI, and the full image adds Junie, OpenCode and Pi. Credentials and workspace files live in bind-mounted host folders, so they persist across container rebuilds.

Two image variants are published: a full image with everything preinstalled and a slim image that keeps only core tools. Images are built for AMD64 and ARM64, and the project documents Docker Compose templates, optional SSH/Mosh access, notification hooks via Apprise, and Ollama as an alternative model backend.

Key features

  • 01Runs the official Claude Code CLI with web UI sign-in via a Claude subscription or API key
  • 02Includes Gemini CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, TaskMaster AI and, in the full image, Junie, OpenCode and Pi
  • 03Headless Chromium with Xvfb and Playwright preconfigured for screenshots and browser testing
  • 04Ships Node.js, Python, git, gh, database clients and 50+ dev tools
  • 05Persists settings and workspace through bind mounts across rebuilds
  • 06Publishes AMD64 and ARM64 images in full and slim variants

Use cases

  • Running Claude Code and other AI coding agents on a home server or NAS without local setup
  • Giving an AI agent a sandboxed Linux environment with a browser for end-to-end testing
  • Standardizing a shared development environment across machines with Docker Compose
  • Comparing outputs from several AI coding CLIs side by side in one place

Quick start

  1. 1

    Create a folder for HolyClaude

    mkdir holyclaude && cd holyclaude
  2. 2

Create a docker-compose.yaml file using one of the README templates

  3. 3

    Pull and start the container

    docker compose up -d
  4. 4

Open the web UI at localhost:3001 and sign in

Things to know

  • Requires Docker and a Claude subscription or Anthropic API key to use Claude Code.
  • The full image is large because it bundles many tools and browsers.
  • Setup of permissions, shared memory and mounts can still need attention on some hosts.
