What is it?

Peekaping is a self-hosted uptime monitoring system that checks websites, APIs, databases, message brokers and other services, then sends alerts and publishes status pages. The server is written in Go and the web interface in React and TypeScript.

Monitor types cover HTTP/HTTPS, TCP, ICMP ping, DNS, push (incoming webhook), Docker containers, gRPC, SNMP, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, MQTT, RabbitMQ and Kafka. Alerts can go to email, Slack, Telegram, Discord, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, ntfy and many other channels. Every function is exposed through a REST API, and a community Terraform provider exists.

Storage runs on SQLite or PostgreSQL, with a Docker image that starts a single process with SQLite and no Redis. MongoDB storage is deprecated, and cluster deployment with Kubernetes or Docker Compose is available for scaling out. The project is in beta, so its interfaces may change.

Key features

  • 01Monitors HTTP/HTTPS, TCP, ping, DNS, Docker containers, gRPC, SNMP and common databases and message brokers.
  • 02Sends alerts through email, chat tools, incident platforms and SMS services.
  • 03Provides public status pages and SVG status badges.
  • 04Exposes all functions through a REST API for automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • 05Runs on SQLite or PostgreSQL storage, with a single-process Docker image.
  • 06Includes multi-factor authentication, login brute-force protection and API key management.

Use cases

  • Monitoring websites, APIs and backend services from a self-hosted server.
  • Checking database, Redis, Kafka or RabbitMQ availability alongside web endpoints.
  • Publishing a public status page for customers or internal teams.
  • Automating monitor creation through the API or Terraform in DevOps workflows.

Quick start

  1. 1

Run Peekaping with Docker and SQLite

    docker run -d --restart=always -p 8383:8383 -e DB_NAME=/app/data/peekaping.db -v $(pwd)/.data/sqlite:/app/data --name peekaping 0xfurai/peekaping-bundle-sqlite:latest
  2. 2

    Open http://localhost:8383 in your browser

Things to know

  • The project is in beta and may change, so testing outside production is recommended.
  • MongoDB storage is deprecated, so new installs should use SQLite or PostgreSQL.
